While on a reconnaissance mission, he and his team were in an accident that severely injured both his brain and his body. Steve needed purpose and structure, and he found them both in his 30-year career with the U.S. Marine Corps. He deployed many times as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician, but when Steve retired and his life slowed down, he began to feel the weight of his experiences. From grief over lost teammates to unprocessed trauma, that load became too much to carry on his own. Steve reached out to Boot Campaign, worked through his individualized care plan and now shares how he is able to see a clear future ahead of him. We couldn’t fulfill thousands of needs and wishes each year through our Seasons of Service Program without the help of individual and corporate volunteers, like our friends at Bob Moore Construction.  Led by CEO Ed McGuire, the family-owned construction company has been involved for more than five years to donate and wrap presents at our warehouse in Grapevine, Texas. In fact, Ed and his team have committed to making our volunteer efforts a part of his company’s way of giving back to Veterans and military families each year.  Hear more from Ed on why volunteering is so important to his organization, what his takeaways are from an afternoon of wrapping at our warehouse and how you can join in. David joined the U.S. Army as a way to get away from the realities of home. However, the longer he spent away on deployments, the more he saw his own life, relationships and framework of reality change and, ultimately, implode. His physical wellbeing began to suffer, leading to debilitating high anxiety and malnutrition. He knew he needed help. Jeff went straight into the U.S. Navy after graduating high school in 1987. During his career that spanned both pre- and post-9/11, Jeff witnessed events that took the lives of many of his brothers and sisters in arms. He carried the weight of his experiences and those tragic losses with him, leading to a pattern of avoidance and withdrawal from loved ones. Once he was ready to take the first step to healing, Jeff began working through his individualized care plan through our Health & Wellness Program and never looked back.
