Showing your support of Veterans is simpler than you may think. You don’t need to organize a whole community or host a massive event. It can start with a simple act: expressing your appreciation.
Many Veterans and military families live lives deeply and completely influenced by their experience serving our country. This work and sacrifice is often overlooked. The reminder that they matter is a game-changer for those feeling unseen.
For years, volunteer and supporter Sherri Whitesell has partnered with Boot Campaign by writing letters to those we serve and those who need encouragement! We asked her a bit about her why, and here’s what she said:
“I didn’t serve in the military but am so very grateful for all those that did. Their service means the world to me! Thank you just doesn’t cover my gratitude!! I write to service members to let them know how special and important they are. It is truly my honor to get to write them. “
When we asked her about her motivation, she said, “It’s important to write letters so our Veterans know that their service meant something. What they sacrificed and gave up is incredibly selfless! I want them to know they are special and valued.
And to Veterans, she had this special message: “I’d say don’t ever give up! Hang in there and know there’s help however you may need it. Veterans need to know they deserve any help they might need and it’s not because anyone pities them it’s because they truly deserve it. They are important and their sacrifices were appreciated.”
