Help spread patriotism all summer long!
Summer time is right around the corner, so Nutley, New Jersey Teacher of the Year, Diane Rambaldi, shares some fun, easy, patriotic things to do as a family.
1. Take a trip!
What better way to spend time together than taking a trip to a national monument or patriotic destination! You can learn a lot about history while showing your child how our country came to be. A great idea would be visiting Washington DC or our Statue of Liberty!
2. Write Letters to Our Troops
Children love having a pen pal. Why not have your child write a letter to a service member serving overseas? It’s a great way to show support to those deployed and to top it
off your child can practice their letter writing skills while making a hero smile!
3. Share Sweets with Local Veterans and Active Duty Military
What is the best way to someone’s heart? Through their tummy! Spend some time with your child, talking about what it means to be an American and have the freedoms we do and the men and women who serve to protect us…while baking some cookies to share. Have your child drop off the goodies and have a conversation with the Veterans of your hometown. You can show your support and your child may learn something from a great conversation!
4. Visit a Memorial
As a family visit a Veteran Memorial. Remember those who gave it all for the freedoms we enjoy today. If you have a hometown memorial remembering the fallen, you might consider getting permission to plant some flowers by the memorial, too!
5. “Plant” an American FLAG!
Purchase some small American flags and ask your neighbors if they would like you to “plant” an American Flag on their lawn. By the end of a day you could have your whole street paved with Patriotism!
Try to complete this patriotic “to do list” as a family. Spending time together is the most important part of the summer!
