YOU MATTER is our Anthem…and our Story.
The message of YOU MATTER is not something our team at Boot Campaign takes lightly. Nearly all of our staff has firsthand experience with losing someone they love to suicide.
Suicide is often referred to as the silent epidemic. In an effort to honor the lives lost and shatter the stigmas around the not talked about topic of suicide, we asked our staff who felt comfortable sharing their stories about what the YOU MATTER message means to them. Here’s what they had to say:
“YOU MATTER is not just a saying, it is a reflection of the relationships you create to show the person on the receiving end of ‘You Matter’ that they are important to this world.”
“My 19 year old godson took his own life 7 years ago. I’m very close to his parents and we still talk about him all the time. If I could go back, I would tell my godson that being broken is okay and that he can depend on his family and friends. I would tell him that there is so much love available to him, please don’t give up. I would tell him that the world needs him.”
“I am so grateful that in my role at Boot Campaign I get to not only tell Veterans that they matter, but also show them, daily. I get to promise them there is hope and then, with an amazing team of people, deliver that hope to them.”
Whether a family member, neighbor or friend, our team’s shared perspective of losing a loved one makes our YOU MATTER message personal and reminds us we are not alone and helps make our Boot Campaign mission personal – to unite Americans to honor and restore the lives of Veterans and military families through individualized, life-improving care. Every day, we get to pour everything we’ve got into living and earnestly sharing with Veterans and military families a key message we want them all to know, hear and feel: “YOU MATTER.”
