Georgetown, TX (October 7, 2013) – Two Texas Chiefs are sporting some new footwear! Georgetown Police Chief Wayne Nero and Georgetown Fire Department Chief John Sullivan are showcasing Boot Campaign “give back” combat boots with their uniforms. Talk about a conversation starter! By lacing up combat boots they are expressing their patriotism and gratitude for those who serve through the Georgetown-based national nonprofit, Boot Campaign, which is dedicated to cultivating awareness, promoting patriotism, and providing assistance to military, past and present, and their families. Being so close to Fort Hood, they want our brave defenders to know that we are here for them.
“It is my personal belief that there needs to be a fundamental change in the way we treat the deployed and returning military. These men and women have sacrificed their time and lives for us and we own them big time,” said Fire Chief John Sullivan of the Georgetown Fire Department. “The easiest way for us to do this is through a solidarity program, like the boot campaign, that assists in their transition back home… this is where they belong and we need to show it so they can feel it and believe it.”
Police Chief Wayne Nero, a former U.S. Marine, has authorized that the 11th day of every month will be “get your BOOTS ON” day in Georgetown, and his entire force will be allowed to wear Boot Campaign combat boots with their uniforms.
