Brand New Event Lands in South Texas
Boots, Birds & Birdies is set for October 10, 2015 and the communities of Pleasanton and Jourdanton are pulling together to make the inaugural event one to remember. City and county agencies are partnering with citizens and businesses, and all are 100% committed to giving their all to support Boot Campaign and America’s defenders. As with many BC projects, Boots, Birds & Birdies puts an unconventional spin on already-fun recreational activities. The day begins bright and early with a dove hunt…on the Pleasanton Country Club golf course, followed by a sporting clay shoot for mulligans, then an out-of-the-box golf tournament. Never ones to end the party early, the evening festivities kick off with a hero panel and dinner, followed by a live auction and rockin’ concert featuring some pretty awesome Texas country acts – stay tuned for the big announcement!
John Hughes, dedicated Boot Campaign supporter and the host sponsor for the event, shared a bit about why and how Boots, Birds & Birdies came about: “I have always felt guilty that so many men and women were sacrificing for my freedom, facing the enemy all over the world. I’m too old and slow to fight, but I could take the time to offer support and financial assistance. When my wife Pam and I committed to support our service heroes, we wanted to find an organization that was not just involved with a single focus on themselves. Boot Campaign met our all our criteria, including veteran support internally and externally, volunteer founders, openness to help other charities with like interests and most importantly, giving to deserving veteran heroes that are vetted. We feel like family when we are with the Boot Team – each member is so passionate about giving back that they shine with joy as they work for others.” He went on to describe how the event fits so well into the south Texas landscape, explaining, “I know South Texas, especially Atascosa County, is going to be so proud of the Boots, Birds & Birdies event. Residents are extremely self-sufficient and amazingly giving of their hearts and their wallets. Patriotism is very much in the hearts of south Texans and has always been. I personally stand beside Boot Campaign and their ethics in issuing funds to heroes in need. We cannot wait to be a small part with so many others that will join together to serve those who have served us.”
Boots, Birds & Birdies promises to be one of our best events yet and will no doubt raise much-needed funds that will allow Boot Campaign to continue serving heroes and their families. It takes an all-star team to make it happen, and there’s still time to get involved and show your support.
