Meet our 2025 Board Chair John Hughes

At the start of 2025 we welcomed John Hughes as Boot Campaign’s new Chairman of the Board of Directors! John has been laced up as a Board Member since 2017 and has been a passionate advocate for our mission and programs ever since.
As a native Texan, John is an adventurer who loves his country, and wholeheartedly supports the military community, first responders and peace keepers in the communities he touches.
Read below to learn more about John and why our mission and messages are important to him.
Why is supporting organizations like Boot Campaign important to you?
Supporting Boot Campaign is important to me because how they care for Veterans and military families works, especially the Health & Wellness Program. The Health & Wellness Program is time intensive and individualized. It’s not a bandaid.
And donors can be rest assured that not only is Boot Campaign caring for the Veterans, they are also caring for the donor and the resources they’ve given to the mission. Every penny is accounted for.
How do you plan to show your appreciation for those who serve(d) during Military Appreciation Month in May?
Every month and every day is Military Appreciation Month for me. I will continue to support my friends who serve(d), share the mission of Boot Campaign and make sure others know I’m a proud American and grateful for those who protect us.
What do you want others to know about Boot Campaign?
I want others to know that Boot Campaign, its staff, its Board of Directors and its supporters deeply care about the military and Veteran population and every day we wish we could do even more to support those who serve(d).
Boot Campaign and its programs fill a gap in care for our Veterans and military families because they aren’t getting what they need through traditional channels. I would love nothing more than for Boot Campaign and other organizations like us to not be needed.
But until that day comes, we will spend our time, effort and energy making sure that what we do is done well to the best of our abilities so that the Veteran and military population know they matter.
What does the military and Veteran population mean to you?
The military and Veteran population is a perfect snapshot of America. You have winners and losers; needy people and servant leaders; the strong and the weak, the passionate and the rule followers; the physically fit and mentally healthy and the depressed and ill…there are many more other categories and classifications as well. But ultimately, serving in the military doesn’t make you any more special as a human being.
To me, it’s all about the why and the how, just like anything else in life. As humans, we should want to correctly assist any other human in need so they are cared for and have the opportunity to live a fulfilling life. God has put Veterans, women and children on my heart and has given me the passion and wallet to purposefully assist.
