Plungerhead Backs the Boot Campaign

/

We’ve always said that while we take our mission very seriously, Boot Campaign events are lots of fun, so when the self-proclaimed laid-back guys behind Plungerhead came on board to lend their support, we knew it would be a great fit. Plungerhead, whose parent company is the equally cheeky The Other Guys, produce blended red wines in Lodi, California, one of the more demanding wine-growing appellations in the state (that’s a fancy term for geographic origin). Their style is quirky and their packaging distinctive, defining their products as “made with character for characters.” Which leads to the new partnership between Plungerhead and the Boot Campaign: Characters for a Cause. Through this promotion, a portion of proceeds from select Plungerhead sales will help further our mission to promote patriotism, raise awareness of military issues and provide assistance for military families. Plus, we get to hang out with these fine folks who know a thing or two about making hard work look fun.

August Sebastiani, president of The Other Guys, admits he was perusing Facebook when he stumbled upon the Boot Campaign. “It wasn’t long before I was super impressed – looking to learn more and help however I could,” he recalls. For 115 years, his family has made wine in Sonoma, California, a community with a long history of honoring American heroes. Suffice to say, Sebastiani grew up in a culture that appreciates more than just good wine. “Generations ago, the streets in our town were named for those local young men who’d fallen in World War II and Korea, and Sonoma was the home for General (Ret.) Henry “Hap” Arnold. Sonoma is also proud to have a veteran cemetery named for the two-time 4-star general.”

Though he hasn’t served in the military himself, Sebastiani’s patriotism is clear. “It’s easy to take for granted the sacrifices that our armed forces make for our everyday life. But at the end of the day, it’s on all of us to recognize the service and personal sacrifice of our military personnel and their families,” he explains. Having the freedom to hit the golf course, snowboard in Tahoe and yell for his favorite sports teams is something Sebastiani knows doesn’t come without a price – he’s a Golden State Warriors, San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan, by the way – so it was only natural for The Other Guys to look for ways to give back to those who give so much for us. In fact, Sebastiani is going a step further and challenging a few more influential Californians to get their boots on: Sonoma’s mayor David Cook, Ben Flajnik of “The Gentleman” app and “The Bachelor,” and San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford are all invited to lace up a pair of combat boots to support the warrior class.

From now through May, Plungerhead Lodi Zinfandel and Plungerhead Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon wines will do more than just please the palate – they’ll help the Boot Campaign make life better, and hopefully more fun, for military families across the country. Many thanks to August Sebastiani and the incredible team at The Other Guys; we think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Salut!
